Albuquerque Journal Obituaries (1) WALLIS -- KATE "KITTY" 1944-2012 Age 68, a resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012. She was born on January 27, 1944 in McDowell County, West Virginia. Kitty was a long-time resident of Albuquerque and Belen. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Davis; father, Glen Tweed; mother, Oda Kate Grindstaff; long-time companion, Sonja Jean Jones; younger brother, Mickey Grindstaff; sister-in-law, Theresa Grindstaff; and brother-in-law, Gary Campbell. Kitty is survived by three sisters, Bea Boswell and husband, Don of Scottsburg, Indiana, MaryLee Campbell of Federal Way, Washington and Linda Sue Chandler and husband, Tony of Watauga, Tennessee; two brothers, Charles Grindstaff and wife, Wilma and Larry "Bo" Grindstaff all of Johnson City, Tennessee; seven children in her extended family; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All Services will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel beginning with a Public Viewing on Friday, April 20th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Final Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 21 at 11:00 a.m. with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery. NEFF -- MIRIAM Passed away peacefully March 5, 2012. Miriam was born in Greentown, Indiana on June 21, 1930. She moved to New Mexico in 1950 and has lived most of her life in Albuquerque. Miriam is survived by her children, Lisa Heimer and husband Greg, Keith Neff and wife Kristen, Kevin Neff and wife Renee; sisters, Sue Symons and Mickey Campbell; brother, Bill Campbell; grandchildren Michelle, Alicia, Suzanne, Samantha, Robyn, Kristina, Savannah and Chandler; six great-grandchildren; as well as many loved nieces, nephews, in-laws and many very dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Wilma Campbell; daughter, Susie Griffin; former husband, Jack Neff; sister, Ruth Souter; and two great-grandsons. Miriam worked as a legal secretary for most of her career and enjoyed square dancing, knitting and traveling with her sister Sue. The family wishes to thank all those who helped take care of her in the past two months, especially her friend, Betty, as well as all of the friends and family who visited and helped take care of all of us. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who wish may make a donation to the American Cancer Society. Age 60 and a resident of Albuquerque, NM, retired from the city of Albuquerque, loved music and played with his band the "Mixed Breed" and many other bands for numerous years, died peacefully in his home with his family by his side on Thursday, February 23, 2012. He is survived by two daughters Andrea Gutierrez and husband Christopher, Emerald Duquette and husband Sean; grandchildren Monique, Dezmond, Andre, Dylan and Oliver; four sisters Patricia Campbell and husband Dean of Albuquerque, Maria (Levy) Jaramillo and husband Frank of Albuquerque, Rita Rivera of Sedillo, NM and Merillyn Gutierrez and fiance, Mike Maldonado of Albuquerque; two brothers Verginio Gutierrez and Barbara of Albuquerque, Antonio Gutierrez of Bartolo Baca, NM; sister-in-law Lorraine Gutierrez of Edgewood NM; one expected great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Preceded in death by his parents Ponciano Gutierrez and Teresita Gutierrez, and brother Danny Gutierrez. Visitation will be on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Riverside Funeral Home at 225 San Mateo NE with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm. The final visitation will be Saturday March 3, 2012 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am with the Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 at Holy Child Parish in Tijeras. The burial will follow at 12:00 noon with interment at San Antonio Cemetery, off North Highway 14. Albuquerque Journal Obituaries (15) ROMERO -- ADELINA MARIA Age 82, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Chimayo, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sotero Romero; parents, Emiliano and Ramoncita Martinez; uncle and aunt who raised her, George and Frances Chavez; brothers, Benny, Carmen, Eliseo and Vicente Martinez; sisters, Cordelia Marquez and Anslema Pacheco; nephews, Ricky, Tony, Leroy, Ralph and Wilfred Martinez and Harold Pacheco; sister-in-law, Martha Martinez and brother-in-law, Nash Marquez. Adelina was a religious woman and very proudly supported Morada de Nuestro Senor de Esquipula del Santuario. She was a hard worker, an excellent cook and a very loving and caring person and was always willing to offer a helping hand to all her family, friends, neighbors and others in need of help. She adored and raised her loving successful children. FUENTES -- DIANA ROMERO Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2011. She was born on September 8, 1952 in Albuquerque NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Trinidad Romero and Julia E. Romero; her sister, Marilyn Debbie Romero; and her brother, Ernie Romero. She is survived by her husband Santiago Fuentes; son Jason Campbell; daughter Yvette Ortiz; granddaughters, Lynee Ortiz, Destiny Ortiz, Faith Romero; great-grandson Andrew Ortiz; her brother Joseph T. Romero-Esparza and wife Dolly; sister Bertha Haines and husband Bob; sister Rita Herrera; and by nephews, nieces, and cousins all dear to her heart. HOFFMAN -- VINCENT T. Vince was born the ninth child of Albert and Elizabeth Hoffman in Savage, Montana on August 21, 1933, and passed away on December 3, 2011. He graduated from high school in Savage, Montana. He also received a BA in History at Carroll College in Helena, Montana and an MA in Educational Administration from UNM in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Vince spent his entire professional career in education as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and school principal. He spent eleven of those years in Montana and the last twenty eight in the Albuquerque Public Schools, including serving at Sandia High School, Highland High School and the Career Enrichment Center; he retired in 1993. Vince was a very devout Catholic, a very loyal Democrat, two traits he inherited from his father; and he always pulled for "the underdog." He was a proud American but loved to travel to other countries to enjoy and respect the culture and tradition of those nations. He is survived by his loving wife and very best friend, Carol, of the family home in Albuquerque, NM; daughter Jeanne Campbell and her husband, Casey, of Edgewood, NM, Janet Castillo and her husband, Daniel, of Albuquerque, NM, Tana Gonzales and her husband, Michael, of Rio Rancho, NM, and Linda Barela and her husband, Steve, of Albuquerque, NM; stepson, Joshua Tinnin, of Taos, NM; thirteen grandchildren: Morgan Gruen and husband, John, of Albuquerque, NM, Brian, Sarah, and Aaron Campbell of Edgewood, NM, Vanessa Sorensen of Albuquerque, NM, Alexandra Castillo of New York City, NY, Amanda, Michael, and Autumn Gonzales of Rio Rancho, NM, Miranda, Gabriella, Olivia, and Steven Barela of Albuquerque, NM; five great-grandchildren: Tristen, Victoria, and Jackson Sorensen, and Hali and Caroline Gruen, all of Albuquerque, NM. Albuquerque Journal Obituaries (28) OSUSKY -- JAMES T. Age 73, of Amberg, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Oscar G. Johnson Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI. He was born in Milwaukee, WI, on July 20, 1938; son of Katherine Osusky. Jim entered the Air Force and served his country honorably from 1956 to 1960, while stationed in Albuquerque, Jim was involved in Cub Scouts, Little League, and the Elks Club. In 1982 he moved to Amberg. His hobbies include bow and rifle hunting; he loved tout fishing, collecting guns and knives. He belonged to the U.P. Antique Car Club and enjoyed cruising in his 1957 Ford Retractable. He loved to look at older cars. He also collected Marilyn Monroe and Elvis plates. Jim will be sadly missed by family and friends. Jim is survived by his fiancee, Frances "Susie" Campbell of Amberg; six children: James (Becky) Osusky, Jeffrey (Phyllis) Osusky, Julie Snyder all from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jodi Campbell of Black Rock, AR, Janie (fiance Jeff) Campbell of Krakow, WI, and Jacki (fiance Paul) Campbell of Pembine; grandchildren: Sara, Tamara, Jeremy, Kenneth IV, Kara, Jeremiah, Amanda, Pamela, Sadie, Christopher, Coty, Erik II, and Jasamine; four great-grandchildren: Luke, Jayden , Collin and Dexter; and further survived by numerous extended family and friends. WEBER -- ALOIS RIVERS HUGHES Born December 19, 1910 in Linden, MO, died Friday, September 16, 2011 at the age of 100. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Swan Hughes and Nora Mildred Elam Hughes; her brothers, Otis Kimbrall Hughes, Gilbert Irvin Hughes, and George William Hughes; and her sisters, Genevieve Goode Hughes and Cora Ellen Hughes Hester. She began her career teaching in a one-room schoolhouse, grades K-8. She then taught first grade for many years, was a reading coordinator and finally an administrator in the Kansas City, MO School District. She moved to Rio Rancho, NM in 1980 following the death of her husband, Frank Thomas Ewing Weber. Since then she worked closely with AARP to establish the Meadowlark Senior Center which opened in 1985. Not only was she a charter member, but she served on the MSC Advisory Board for over ten years as member, vice-chair, and chairperson. She also taught "Fit for Life" for AARP and was active as a volunteer tutor for Read West and as a volunteer for Storehouse West. Alois was a member of PEO. She remained politically active and walked door to door to register voters and get out the vote well into her nineties. She is survived by her daughters, Pat Brusuelas and husband, Richard; and Susan Mills and her husband, Barry; and by 5 grandchildren: Kimberly Brusuelas, her husband Edward Benavidez, her daughters Shade Hannum and Pearl Campbell; Kristin Brusuelas, her husband Robert Jones, their children Robin and Rex; Katherine Brusuelas, her husband James Washington, their children Raven and James; Heather Mills Wichmann, her husband Kevin, their children Emily and Alex; and Barry Mills, Jr. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the family and friends who celebrated her life at her 100th birthday party in December, 2010. It was one of the highlights of her life. She will be interred in Kansas City, MO. Arrangements are being made by Riverside Funeral Home, 505-764-9663.
