How do I know if my Oakleys have a warranty?

Before we jump into what the Oakley warranty covers, how you might file a claim, and more. First, we need to ask, do you have a warranty at all? Luckily, the answer is Yes. All Oakley Eyewear (Sunglasses, Goggles, Eyeglasses), Apparel, Footwear, and Accessories come with a warranty.

Do Oakley’s have a lifetime warranty?

While early Oakley products such as the Eyeshade Sunglasses came with a lifetime warranty, this has not been offered on most products in quite some time.

There is an exception though: Goggles and Helmets.

As of this article, according to Oakley’s Warranty policy on their website, Goggles and Helmets do include a limited lifetime warranty. (Don’t get your hopes up too much, though, it doesn’t cover much)

For the latest timelines, see the list below for applicable products and how long the Oakley warranty lasts:

  • Eyewear (Glasses/Sunglasses): 2 Years from date of purchase
  • Goggles: Lifetime
  • Helmets: Lifetime
  • Apparel (Shirts, Pants, etc.): 100 days
  • Technical Outerwear (Ski/Snow jackets): 1 year
  • Gloves: 100 days
  • Accessories: 100 days
  • Bags: 1 year

  • Footwear: 100 days
  • Certain Waterproof Footwear: 1 or 2 years (depending on model, must call customer care)

These same timelines also apply to pairs purchased through the Oakley Standard Issue program and Oakley Vault locations.

What does the Oakley Warranty actually cover?

Now that you’ve determined whether your Oakley product has a warranty and how long it’s good for, we’ll jump into what the warranty covers.

Unfortunately, for every Oakley product, the warranty covers you “from defects in workmanship and manufacturer materials.” What does this mean? Generally, it means within the time periods listed and assuming general wear and tear, your product shouldn’t start falling apart. If it is, well, it may be a manufacturer defect.

To be clear, the warranty does not cover “any defects due to improper use, improper repair, physical damage, neglect & improper fit.”

This means the most common damage to Oakley lenses and frames; scratches and breaking, are not covered. Oakley even specifies on their site that the warranty program does not cover scratched lenses.

But Oakley did update their warranty information recently to include the below guidance on what’s considered covered.

WHAT IS COVERED BY WARRANTY (examples):

  • Delamination and/or peeling of sun lens coating
  • Bubbles or imperfections in lens coating
  • Premature flaking or deterioration of frame coating
  • Soldering defects of temple hinges and/or barrels

WHAT IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY (examples):

  • Normal wear and tear (scratches or pit marks on sun lenses)
  • Any damages caused by accident, abuse, neglect, shock, improper use or storage of product
  • Damage caused by chemicals (hair spray, cologne, window cleaner, alcohol, etc.)
  • Unauthorized modifications or repairs Loss of eyewear
  • Installation of non-Oakley lenses

Additionally, if you’re a DIY’/Modder with your glasses, these activities will void any remaining warranty according to the policy.

How do I use my Warranty / file a claim?

Now assuming you’ve met all the criteria above, and you want to proceed with a claim, then what? First, Oakley recommends reaching out to the authorized retailer who sold you the product.

This could be an Oakley store, SunglassHut, or other stores/websites. For prescription glasses, you should work directly with the outlet that sold you the glasses.

If those retail outlets are unable to assist you, then you can proceed to contact Oakley through the Luxottica customer care links included below:

For Sunglasses (Frames and Lenses) and Prescription Frames (lenses excluded), you can access the portal here. It will require you to register with basic information. Once registered it will ask you for:

  • Purchase date and sales receipt
  • Defect notes and pictures of the defect (from several angles)
  • Product code and a picture of the inside temple
  • Shipping address for any potential returns if approved

For Accessories, Apparel and Footwear, the process is more limited and simply requires an email to the warranty team: consumerwarranty@luxotticaretail.com.

What if Oakley can’t fix my Eyewear/Product, or it’s not covered etc.?

If your product isn’t under warranty, Oakley will likely offer you the replacement part for a fee.

If your product is under warranty, but the part is unavailable, or they cannot fix it, they will likely offer you a discount on a replacement product. This has typically been 25% off for a replacement pair of sunglasses or lenses.
