Good grief. Learn math. I’m 65 and was too young to have served in Viet nam. All American troops were gone from Viet nam by march 1973. I was 14 years old at that time. Anyone that is 60 years old now, would have been 9 years old when troops were finally all gone from there.

The youngest American combat soldier of the Vietnam War would have been born in 1954, so 69 years old in 2023. He would not have been drafted. Such a man would have had to have graduated from high school early, or dropped out and immediately joined the military, then after six months of training, be sent directly to Vietnam where he would have caught the absolute final weeks of ground combat in August 1972. After that he could have been stationed in Vietnam where the US was bombing Vietnam back to the stone age in late 1972, he would probably be some kind of a support person in the Air Force, maybe Navy. My father joined the Navy in 1965 at the age of 17. The military consciously waited until he turned 18 in 1966 to send him to Vietnam. He never actually set foot in Vietnam, he served on aircraft carriers off the coast of Vietnam.

Alan Winquist: I left a FSB in Gio Linh (Quang Tri) province on August 5,1971 @ the ripe age of 21. We were a raiding btry. & where at Conthien-Khe Sanh-Lang Vei for operation Lam Son 719 then into the A Shau Valley as the NVA were very active in Quang Tri Prov. We were never did battle with any VC unit's. Many vietnam vets have died here @ home from AGENT ORANGE as we were hosed down with it in Quang Tri Prov. Check the D.O.D. map to see what Im saying!!

With all due respect, Samantha, the last US combat troops left Vietnam almost exactly 52 years ago.If the average age of Vietnam veterans is 68, then those who went in when the build-up started in 1966 would have on average been 10 years old, and the relatively small number who came out in March 1972 would have been 16!I have seen reports that children as young as 15 served in the war by lying about their age.But the average of those killed-in-action was around 22 or 23.According to theNational Archives, between 1972 and 1974 a total of 828 US service members died from all causes in Vietnam. That's well under 2% of the total American KIA's.In contrast, according to the same source, more than 40,000 died between 1967 and 1969.Our greatest losses occurred in 1968, when a total of16,899 Americans died. There were more than 500,000U.S. forces in Vietnamin 1968, the peak year, which by 1970 had decreased to just under 170,000.Some who served were in their 60s. But if we guesstimate that the average U.S. military person served in Vietnam in 1968, by your data they would have been about 12 years old.I was there in 1968, and I promise you I did not see any 12 -year-old American soldiers or Marines.

Samantha, I am 70 years old. and was sent to Vietnam at 18, we left august of 72. Two weeks before my 19th birthday. I believe my age group would have been the last to leave. The U.S. war ended january 23 or 27 of 73.

The last deployment would have been in 1972. This would make the youngest vet about 72 years old. Bottom line, if you are younger than 72 and claiming to be a Vietnam veteran, then you are most likely an imposter.

During Suicide Prevention Awareness Month we invite everyone to learn about mental health resources, and we want to introduce stories that reflect on the themes of mental health support. In "Tribe," author Sebastian Junger explores the concept of community and the sense of belonging that is often experienced during military service. He delves into the aftermath of war and how the loss of that communal support can contribute to mental health struggles among veterans. Junger also examines the alarming rates of suicide among veterans and the societal factors that may contribute to this issue. Please note that discussing sensitive topics such as mental health and suicide requires a thoughtful and compassionate approach. It's essential to create a safe space for discussion and consider offering additional resources or support for individuals who may be personally affected by these issues.#mentalhealthawareness #StudentVeterans #WeAreSVA #SVALeads

In our latest article, I emphasize the critical importance of mental health services for veterans suffering from PTSD and highlight the unique challenges that veterans face upon returning home, including PTSD, substance abuse, chronic ailments, and suicide. This article underscores the significance of mental health services in addressing these challenges and providing support for veterans affected by the invisible wounds of war. I draw from a decade of experience in working with senior-aged veterans to shed light on the mental health landscape in the state and the toll these challenges take on military service members, particularly PTSD. I call out for increased resources, funding, and awareness to ensure that all veterans have access to the mental health services they need to heal, recover, and thrive in their post-military lives. I emphasize the duty to advocate for the best mental health support for veterans as a token of gratitude for their service and sacrifice. https://lnkd.in/gbGhUEZf

In honor of #MemorialDay, we want to express gratitude to all who have served and highlight the unmet mental health needs of this community.23% of active duty and 20% of veterans have depression and 16% of both populations are diagnosed with PTSD. Despite these alarming statistics, only 23-40% of those who meet the criteria of having a mental health disorder receive professional help. One of the biggest barriers to getting help is mental health stigma with practical barriers like lack of transportation, financial resources, and time for treatment. Let's continue to honor our service members by advocating for their mental health needs and supporting organizations that are working to make a difference. We don’t need to be “the same” to go out of our way help others. We can even save lives by simply caring.Today is World Mental Health Day & I encourage us all to remember that everyone is human, each have their own backstory, all hold onto belief systems that may be engrained from an early age & that ultimately we are all in this together.Seeing this dolphin instinctively saving a dog at sea can open our eyes to how much love, compassion & intuitive desire to help other life on earth, regardless of compensation, credit, kindredness et al there may be associated with it. Let’s all tune into this today & every day!All universal basic income (UBI) programs currently reporting data back show conclusively that UBI reduces most mental health issues at scale; also simply listening to others and holding space for them to unload can be hugely productive and net positive.Don’t just love and help those who think like you, act like you, are cut from your same cloth etc — right now we, as a species, need UNITY, empathy, unconditional love, hope & community. Today is a great day to have these conversations, show love to all, strive to understand & to support one another (all) to the best of one abilities. Finally, if we see someone drowning on their own, maybe we can offer our back & help guide them to safety. I’m a broken record on this one, but TOGETHER WE RISE. Not individually and independently. Sending love to all.✌️&💗,CoryconnectsVideo credit @whatdadoggo IG#worldmentalhealthday #ubi #community #mentalhealth #opendialogue #compassion #support
