In the Omura region, Pokemon can be both shiny and platinum, which is new, a higher tier of shiny Pokemon characterized by their colorless designs. Both shiny and platinum Pokemon are more powerful than their non-shiny counterparts and are given stat bonuses.
Shiny Pokemon experience an increase in all stats by 1.1x (10%) the regular amount. Platinum Pokemon experience approximately double this boost, and experience an increase in all stats by 1.21x ( ≈ 20%).
The base chances for encountering or hatching a shiny Pokemon are 1/256 ( ≈ 0.39%) , while the base chances for platinum Pokemon are 1/1500 ( ≈ 0.06% ), making platinum Pokemon around 6x rarer than shiny Pokemon. These odds can be improved during breeding by pairing up two Pokemon with different OTs, one or both of these Pokemon being shiny, and/or the father being a platinum Pokemon.
Platinum Pokemon are the only wild Pokemon to drop Platinum Cards, which they have a 10% chance to drop after being defeated or caught.
