Two-factor authentication (2FA) enhances the security of your Instagram account by requiring a verification code from your phone when logging in. However, it can become a hassle if you lose access to your phone. If you find yourself in this situation, don’t worry. Here are some ways to log back into Instagram without a verification code.

Case 1: If Other Methods Are Available

Instagram allows you to set multiple verification methods and you can use them to login provided you have enabled them. If you’ve lost your phone, contact your carrier to retrieve your phone number, or use WhatsApp Web to get the OTP.

1. When prompted for the verification code, select Try another way.
2. Choose the option you can authenticate with.
3. Enter the OTP or the 8-digit backup codes to log in.

Each backup code can be used only once. If you run out, you need to generate new ones through your account settings once you’re logged back in.

Case 2: If You Have Another Device That’s Logged in Currently or Previously

Do you have any other device that’s currently logged in to your Instagram account? Try to find a device that you have logged in on before. Instagram will not ask for a verification code on such trusted devices. If you can find such a device, you can use it to disable two-factor authentication. So you can log in from any device without the need for a verification code.

1. Open Instagram app on a phone where you’re already logged in.
2. Go to your profile and tap the hamburger menu.
3. Navigate to Accounts Center > Password and security > Two-factor authentication.
4. Select your account and turn off all the 2FA methods.

This method allows you to log in from any new device with your username and password. After you log in, enable 2FA again for the security of your account.

Case 3: Get Help From Instagram

If all the previous methods fail, you can reach out to Instagram support for help. But, you need to have your photos on your profile so that Instagram can verify and give you access without a verification code.

1. On the login page, tap on Try another way.
2. Here select the Account recovery option.
3. If you have your photos on your profile, select Yes, take a selfie video option.
4. Finally, enter your email address for Instagram to contact you.

This process can take several days, and you are required to send a selfie video of yourself holding a paper with a code provided by Instagram written on it.

Prevent This Issue In The Future

To avoid this situation in the future, consider these tips:

• Enable Multiple Authentication Methods:
  • Set up SMS and an authenticator app as options for receiving verification codes. This ensures that if one method fails, you have an alternative method to receive the code.
  • To enable multiple methods, go to your Instagram settings > Accounts Center > Password and security > Two-factor authentication and set up available authentication methods.
    
• Save Backup Codes:
  • These are essential in case you lose access to your primary methods of receiving the verification code.
  • In the same Two-factor authentication settings, open Additional settings > Backup codes to find them. Store these backup codes in a secure place, such as a password manager, a secure note app, or even a physical safe if you prefer not to keep them digitally.
    
• Enable Trusted Devices:
  • When logging in on devices you own, leave the checkmark beside remember this device. Instagram will consider it a trusted device.
  • Once a device is trusted, you won’t need to enter a verification code every time you log in from it. This can save time and hassle, especially if you frequently use the same devices.

Next time when you have any issue related to 2FA, you will have multiple options to regain account access without losing your account.
